This arrangement is rehashed and afterward is rehashed a third time without spaces between the words sort of like a nursery rhyme. This is to give a thought demonstrating a youngster is talking. She was assaulted by her dad she is dishonored and manhandled by numerous individuals. In the 1960ââ¬â¢s the mental self view of individuals of color and young ladies was controlled by the white ladies that were near. During that time Black was not wonderful to every single, white wa. The constrained white excellence principles added to most dark womenââ¬â¢s low confidence during that time. The perspective on how the mass white culture floods the psyches and ideological perspectives on the dark network. Pocolaââ¬â¢s low confidence originates from the physical and sexual maltreatment that she suffered as a kid. She was assaulted by her dad she is demeaned and manhandled by numerous individuals. She was educated at a youthful age by her mom Mrs. Breedlove that she wasnââ¬â¢t lovely, this originated from the hatred of her on motherââ¬â¢s skin and she took it out on her little girl. Toni Morrison has a repetitive battle of self-distinguishing proof and magnificence principles. This is related to the correlation of people of color ; young ladies to the clichã ©d light hair and blue looked at white ladies in the 60ââ¬â¢s. A case of this would be when Claudia is talented a white doll that has light hair and blue eyes. As indicated by Toni Morrisonââ¬â¢s Character Claudia in The Bluest Eye ââ¬Å"Adults, more established young ladies, shops, magazines, papers, window signs â⬠all the world had concurred that a blue-peered toward, yellow-haired, pink-cleaned doll was what each young lady kid loved. ââ¬Å"Here,â⬠they stated, ââ¬Å"this is lovely, and in the event that you are on this day ââ¬Ëworthyââ¬â¢ you may have it.â⬠Claudia is clarifying how confounded she is on the grounds that she doesn't see a similar marvel that is constrained on her with light hair and blue looked at white young ladies and child dolls. She even ventures to such an extreme as stripping the doll to its center which is an acknowledgment that the outside excellence amounted to nothing on the grounds that the center was monstrous. Something she was considered ââ¬Å"worthyâ⬠of having she thought was revolting. Pecola experiences low confidence issues from individuals calling her appalling and associating her to negative and revolting things. ââ¬Å"It had happened to Pecola some time prior that if her eyes, those eyes that held the photos, and knew the sights â⬠if those eyes of hers were extraordinary, in other words, delightful, she herself would be differentâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ ¦ If she appeared to be unique, wonderful, possibly Cholly would be unique, and Mrs. Breedlove as well. Possibly theyââ¬â¢d state, ââ¬Å"Why, take a gander at really looked at Pecola. We mustnââ¬â¢t do awful things before those pretty eyes.â⬠Pretty eyes. Really blue eyes. Large blue pretty eyes.â⬠( The Bluest Eye) Instead of the qualities, she has as of now, she needs to have Blue eyes. Blue eyes were viewed as excellent simply like the reference before made to the child doll. Since the white individuals commanded the perspective on magnificence, this is the reason she fixated on Shirley Temple who had light hair and blue eyes. As per the Huff post ââ¬Å"She was Americaââ¬â¢s top film industry draw during the 1930ââ¬â¢s, outranking Clark Gable, and accepting more fan mail than Greta Garbo. As a kid star, she was amazing,â⬠.(HuffPost). Claudia is the most youthful offspring of the MacTeer family. She likewise perseveres through similar issues of colorist and bigot excellence measures as Pecola however she is too youthful to even consider caring. As indicated by Toni Morrisonââ¬â¢s Character Claudia in The Bluest Eye â⬠I couldnââ¬â¢t go along with them in their veneration since I despised Shirley. Not on the grounds that she was charming, but since she hit the dance floor with Boj points, who was my companion, my uncle, my daddy, and who should have been delicate shoeing it and laughing with me. Rather, he was getting a charge out of, sharing, giving a flawless move thing with one of those little white young ladies whose socks never slid down under their heels. So I stated, ââ¬Å"I like Jane Withers.â⬠Claudia is likewise the warrior and the renegade similar to conflicting with the perspectives on others. At the point when she is talented an infant doll that has light hair and blue eyes she doesnââ¬â¢t discover it as lovely as others do. Rather, Claudia dissects it, this is on the grounds that she is youthful and has not had the option to genuinely comprehend self-loathing that the grown-ups have. She is viewed as the confident character in the novel. Claudia is tossed into circumstances and has encountered various things which makes her develop yet additionally a youngster and doesnââ¬â¢t think a lot about the world yet. Inverse of Claudia, Pecola has mental self view issues and is a uninvolved character. Not at all like Claudia, Pecola didn't experience childhood in an adoring and caring home. Rather, she experienced childhood in what is depicted and ââ¬Å"uglyâ⬠family. Monstrous regarding sad home, highlights, and childhood. Pecola values the light hair and blue peered toward individuals and needs to have similar attributes. Out of the two, Claudia is better ready to dismiss white, working class Americaââ¬â¢s meanings of magnificence. Pecola considers Shirley Temple as the culminates young lady. Toward the start of the book, Pecolaââ¬â¢s love for her Shirley Temple cup opens the perspective on her interest. ââ¬Å"My mother was alluding to was Pecola. As per Toni Morrisonââ¬â¢s Character Claudia in The Bluest Eye ââ¬Å"The three of us, Pecola, Frieda, and I, tuned in to her down the stairs in the kitchen complaining about the measure of milk Pecola had smashed. We realized she was enamored with the Shirley Temple cup and accepted each open door to drink milk out of it just to deal with and see sweet Shirleyââ¬â¢s face.â⬠She gets in a difficult situation for drinking all the milk, Claudiaââ¬â¢s mother thinks she is being ravenous yet she simply needs to utilize her cup all things considered. To Pecola Shirley Temple is who she needs to be, she views herself as revolting and she feels on the off chance that she looked increasingly like Shirley Temple. Where Pecola lives brings calculated excellence gauges, for example, light hair and blue eyes. Maureen represents riches operating at a profit network. Her family were fair complexion and have cash, she is additionally new to the area. As indicated by Toni Morrisonââ¬â¢s Character Claudia in The Bluest Eye ââ¬Å"Maureen Peal. A high-yellow dream youngster with long earthy colored hair meshed into two lynch ropes that hung down her back. She was rich, at any rate by all accounts, as rich as the most extravagant of the white young ladies, wrapped up in solace and care. The nature of her garments took steps to disturb Frieda and me.â⬠Both Shirley Temple and Maureen characterize the magnificence that Pecola wishes she had. Shirley Temple is white with light hair and blue eyes and loved by America. Maureen is an excellent fair looking individual of color with cash. This might be an acknowledgment that you can even now be dark and beautiful, sheââ¬â¢s just not that. She I relate to this when Maureen calls the three young ladies Black and revolting dark alluding to Pecola. ââ¬Å"Safe on the opposite side, she shouted at us, ââ¬Å"I am adorable! What's more, you revolting! Dark and revolting dark e mos. I am cute!â⬠(The Bluest Eye) The Bluest Eyes gives a perspective on individuals of color during the 60ââ¬â¢s and sparkles the light on the standard that was going on around that time. The epic spoke to various fundamental circumstances operating at a profit network. Addresses grieved homes and how dark youngsters were taken from the home to be put in an imperfect home that offers more love. Pecola was the darkest character truly and allegorically. She had the most going on in the novel and. Society has encouraged her that her skin and highlight are monstrous and all that she needs to esteem should be white. Being assaulted by her dad and disparaged by the entire network. This epic shows battle and social segregation which is a common subject. All through the novel, Pecola is developing alongside the Family she lived with. Iââ¬â¢m sure she values being in a caring family yet tragically, the exercise was tied in with adoring herself and figuring out how to cherish herself since her mom couldnââ¬â¢t instruct her. Numerous individuals, for example, legislators and the ultra moderate, feel the impact is damaging and induces savage conduct. A few people, for example the media, accept hip-jump glamorizes improper practices and activities while advancing the dampening of ladies by and large, however more explicitly dark ladies. Hardly any individuals are happy to stand up and safeguard hip-jump music as open type of workmanship. The ââ¬Å"B wordâ⬠, ââ¬Å"hoâ⬠, and ââ¬Å"trickâ⬠are only a couple of the crippling and debasing slang words expressed comparable to ladies in some hip-jump music. Rountree utilizes national radio character Don Imusââ¬â¢s April 4, 2007 racially harsh verbal debasement against a female b-ball group for instance of how hip-bounce is a ââ¬Å"scapegoatâ⬠to legitimize improper and hostile remarks and activities. In the quick fallout of the Imus occurrence long-standing adversaries of hip-jump music reemerged to by and by place fault on the music and the way of life rather than on the people. Albeit a few pundits and activists were sufficiently gallant to lay fault exclusively on Don Imus, others, for example, Al Sharpton, turned out with regards to Imus expressing despite the fact that Imus ââ¬Ës conduct and remarks weren't right, he shouldnââ¬â¢t be considered responsible when performers of the hip-bounce industry are most certainly not. As far back as 1970 ââ¬Å"the demon caused me to do it! an articulation advanced by an anecdotal character of humorist Flip Wilson, has been the overall comic reason for offenses. Rountree engages the possibility of hip-jump as what could be compared to the fiend in that articulation, she further infers the music is illustrative of hip-bounce craftsman environmental factors and condition. Outrage at an absence of understanding the music before sentencing it is Rountrees response to the preference against hip-bounce music, something everybody has done at once or another. World renowned hip-jump craftsman Tupac Shakur was instrumental, significantly after death, in Rountrees choice to reexamine her considerations and position on hip-bounce. Tupacââ¬â¢s after death narrative was a fundamental factor in her choice to rethink the music and the way of life. The impact of that narrative so significantly influenced Rountree she gave a segment of her instructing educational plan to the investigation of hip-bounce. Tupac Shakursââ¬â¢ narrative modified Rountreeââ¬â¢s whole impression of hip-jump as a music and a culture. Her eyes were opened to the significance of the verses as articulations of the lives of the craftsmen. She further expresses the masterful side of the music is illustrative of different parts of society, legislative issues and otherworldliness just as overcoming an issue to the various socioeconomics that make up our nation. In the mid year of 2007 Queen Latifah a notable female hip-jump craftsman, and on-screen character Bruce Willis subsidized an undertaking titled ââ¬Å"The Hip-Hop Projectâ⬠specifying a youthful mansââ¬â¢ supplication to the young people of his locale to share their biographies and encounters through the specialty of hip-bounce. The focal point of the venture urges the gathering to deliver a sensible and clear picture of their regular day to day existence as words and music. With the help of Bruce Willis and other notable figures in the hip-bounce industry the collection was finished as per the general inclination of all gatherings included. Rountrees awards to the achievement of the CD, demonstrates her total difference at the top of the priority list of the subject of hip-jump. By and large, the article ââ¬Å"In Defense of Hip-Hopâ⬠shows the writers eagerness to open her psyche to learning things she doesnââ¬â¢t comprehend. Her suggestions to hip-bounce as a type of social analyses to connect the distinctions of society, mirrors the information she learned on her excursion of self-disclosure. Hip-Hip every now and again gets negative exposure because of the substance of the verses, while never thinking about what the verses really mean. The Hip-Hop Project, was delivered to show the more positive parts of the artistic expression. In a 2016 Poets Quants article highlighting studentsââ¬â¢ favorite undergraduate professors, one student replied, ââ¬Å"I have seen the amount of time he devotes to his students. He spends hours over the summer refining the complex Excel models used in class, recruits impressive guest speakers, and willingly answers studentsââ¬â¢ phone calls late at night and on the weekends. He taught me that fulfillment in any career should not be defined solely by personal achievements; it should instead be measured by the impact we have on others.â⬠Ravenscraft, a finance professor, has said himself that he loves research and teaching, but recognizes that service is where the greatest impact is achieved. Not only does he talk the talk, he walks the walk. Heââ¬â¢s highly recognized for his outstanding service to the business school, which includes former associate dean of both the BSBA Program and OneMBA. In the OneMBA, heââ¬â¢s credited as being the launchpad for the program, making a partnership between five top business schools so that business professionals who work and live around the world can work across cultures, time zones, and continents. He then used this success with OneMBA at the undergraduate level to expand the schoolââ¬â¢s Global Learning Opportunities in Business Education (GLOBE)à Program with partners Chinese University of Hong Kong and Copenhagen Business School. His dedication and acts of service have not gone unnoticed. Professor Ravenscraft has received numero us awards for teaching and dedication, including the Roy W. Holsten Exceptional Service Award ââ¬â UNCââ¬â¢s highest honor for contributions to the business school community ââ¬â and multiple teaching awards at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Kenan-Flagler dean, Doug Shackelford, calls him simply ââ¬Å"a living legendâ⬠for his service contributions.Age: 64At current institution since: 1987Education: PhD Economic, Industrial Organization, Northwestern University, 1980.List of courses currently teaching: I have taught microeconomics and game theory, but my mergers and acquisition course is doing so well that I now teach 12 sections of it at the undergraduate, graduate, and executive education levels almost every year.Fun fact about yourself: I took a year off between college and graduate school to join a dance troop and realized I needed to go to graduate school in something besides the arts. ââ¬Å"I knew I wanted to be a business school professor whenâ⬠¦ â⬠I started researching mergers and acquisitions at the Federal Trade Commission after getting my Ph.D. in economics. I discovered that understanding all functional areas in business was important for a deep understanding of MA. à ââ¬Å"If I werenââ¬â¢t a business school professorâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ I would probably be a professor in economics. I knew I was destined to be a professor in high school when I gave a 20-minute presentation based on one graph (the age of first marriage over time) and no notes. ââ¬Å"One word that describes my first time teachingâ⬠Horrible! I almost quit, but I learn best from my mistakes and won a teaching award three years later. à à à What do you enjoy most about teaching undergraduate business students?à I get the most satisfaction from knowing I am having some impact. Given that undergraduates are making decisions that launch life-long careers, professors can have a long lasting positive influence on these critical decisions. I l ove getting notes from former students letting me know how my course or advice helped them in their careers. à What is the biggest challenge that comes with teaching undergraduate business students? Since getting a job is so important, recruiting can interfere with class work and attendance even for the most dedicated students. à What is the most impressive thing one of your undergraduate students has done? Over my 30 years here, I have taught probably more than 7,000 students at all levels. Many have been very successful in investment banking, starting their own company or advancing to senior management levels. I could not select just one. My very favorites are those that give back in some meaningful way, including those who come back and present to my MA class. à What is the least favorite thing one has done? Violate the honor code. I have no tolerance for that. I have given only about 20 Fs in my 30 years at Kenan-Flagler Business School. All but three of those have been fr om honor code violations. Two of the other three did not take the final and were unresponsive to offers for a make-up exam. If you try, I will help you at least pass. à à à à à What does a student need to do to get an A in your class? I have six team projects that require students to value an acquisition from all major perspectives. The exam has six questions similar to the projects, but on a different acquisition. If they work together well as a team on each project, they will do well on the individual exam. ââ¬Å"When it comes to grading, I think students would describe me as â⬠¦Ã¢â¬ Requiring a lot of workââ¬Å"But I would describe myself as â⬠¦Ã¢â¬ Reasonable if they do the workWhat are your hobbies? Traveling and golfHow did you spend your summer? I am teaching almost year round. So, I worked on continually improving my course, engaged in some consulting and took a vacation to Nantucket. à à Favorite place to vacation: The Tuscany region of ItalyFa vorite book: ââ¬Å"Give and Takeâ⬠by Adam GrantFavorite movie and/or television show: ââ¬Å"Game of Thronesâ⬠or as I call it ââ¬Å"Games of Throneâ⬠since only the Iron Throne matters and the show is about all the games played to get there. Favorite type of music and/or favorite artist: I really like almost all kinds of music, but when alone I tend towards oldies.Bucket list item #1: Write a book on MA that makes the business press best seller listWhat professional achievement are you most proud of? I am so fortunate to have many proud moments, but if I had to focus on one, it would probably my book with my mentor Mike Scherer entitled ââ¬Å"Mergers, Sell-offs Economic Efficiency.â⬠This research book really launched a career that led to substantial MA research, a successful MA course and numerous MA consulting/executive education opportunities. If I were allowed a second, it would be helping develop and lead the Global Executive MBA Program, called OneMBA with four other partner schools around the world. The program has given around 1,500 students a very unique global MBA experience over the past 15 years. What is your most memorable moment as a professor? Hearing that Paul Fulton had given a chaired professorship in my name. So when I retire the Ravenscraft Global Business Distinguished Professorship will always exist at Kenan-Flagler Business School. à à Professor you most admire and why: Adam Grant at Wharton. He has been incredibly successful at teaching, research, and helping so many individuals. His best-selling books blend academic concepts and empirical research into important practical lessons. I first met him when he was a new assistant professor at Kenan-Flagler. I was Associate Dean of the Undergraduate Business Program at the time and asked him to serve on the undergraduate committee. He responded with, ââ¬Å"How can I help and when can I start?â⬠He practices what he preaches. What are you currently researching and what is the most significant discovery youve made from it? Unfortunately, since I do a lot of teaching, administrative work and consulting-executive education, I have not had much time for research lately. I am hoping to take a sabbatical to get to several MA research projects. Twitter handle: I typically spend so much time answering emails that I do not have time for additional communication from social media. à à ââ¬Å"If I had my way, the business school of the future would have much more of thisâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ Applied theory and concepts that students can use right away, but also stand the test of time à ââ¬Å"And much less of thisâ⬠Requiring material to justify teaching load or the view of a particular administrator Looking ahead 10 years from now, describe what ââ¬Å"successâ⬠would look like for you:à I have always sought balance in life, but never really achieved it. So, I would love to continue to see my MA course in heavy demand, write a book and applied articles on how MA can help firms succeed in an environment of rapid change and still make time for regular exercise, travel and being with family and friends. à à Students sayâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬Å"I have seen the amount of time he devotes to his students,â⬠Burke Baldridge shares. ââ¬Å"He spends hours over the summer refining the complex Excel models used in class, recruits impressive guest speakers, and willingly answers studentsââ¬â¢ phone calls late at night and on the weekends. He taught me that fulfillment in any career should not be defined solely by personal achievements; it should instead be measured by the impact we have on others.â⬠ââ¬Å"I have rarely seen teachers with such a passion for teaching. I have also rarely seen teachers sacrifice personal time like this person does for the benefit of students.â⬠ââ¬Å"Highly respected both as an educator here at Kenan-Flagler, and as a consultant for major firms. à Surprisingly, the most impressive th ing about him is not his elite educational background or vast work experience or impressive research record, but rather, how humble he is about it all when preparing undergraduate business students for long, successful careers.â⬠Page 1 of 11 murielkim1982http://www.blogger.com/profile/07643567870326400184noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-140030043763455588.post-57422393895636313152020-05-17T09:20:00.001-07:002020-05-17T09:20:12.059-07:00Essay about thesis - 2256 Words D6T thermal sensor and People Counting Algorithm In this thesis work, a new indoor people counting algorithm is created by using Omron D-6T thermal sensor and Raspberry Pi. Anthony Burgess describes a very dark and disturbing near future that is scary mostly because it seems so possible. Young thugs and gangs run amok leaving a wake of violence. The only thing more terrifying is the State and their way of dealing with criminals. A Clockwork Orange is told from the first person viewpoint of a young teenage thug named Alex. This viewpoint along with the futuristic street language and graphic violence is very effective at immersing the reader in a world where lawlessness is a way of life. There is plenty of violence and sex but generally itââ¬â¢s not too graphic. A dystopia is a utopia turned on its head, a nightmarish societyâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦F. Skinner as a ââ¬Å"technology of behaviorâ⬠that could be used to solve many societal problems, including warfare, crime, and overpopulation. Burgessââ¬â¢s novel warns against the use of such technology. In his view, a person who has been conditioned to behave a certain way loses the God-given right to free will and becomes something like a machine, something as unnatural as a clockwork orange. It is true that after his treatment, the formerly monstrous Alex appears ââ¬Å"goodâ⬠to the outward eye. However, since he is not capable of moral choice, his ââ¬Å"goodnessâ⬠is hollow and insincere. He is like a robot or wind-up toy who functions as the State desires. Now powerless to defend himself, he becomes vulnerable to being victimized and exploited by others, including the government. No matter how wicked a criminal may be, even more sinister is a government that can take away the free will of its citizens. The message of the book is that thought or behavior control, even when used ostensibly for a good purpose (e.g., eradicating crime) is fundamentally wrong, and dangerous. Readers of A Clockwork Orange may be sickened by Alexââ¬â¢s description of red red krovvy (blood) flowing ââ¬Å"beautiful,â⬠by his unrepentant attraction to the depraved. However, the depiction of demonic teens in Kubrickââ¬â¢s movie version of the novel spawned many copycat crimes, proving that there really is something about ultraviolence that appeals to people. Answer: Introduction: Mental illnesses have always been treated with a raised eye, a societal taboo that has been judged in a million different ways, all of them more wrong than the one before. In the face of the technological innovations and progressive modernization, mental illnesses are still treated as an abomination rather than being just a health disorder in need of proper treatment (Schildkrout Frankel, 2016). Medical sciences however has done a lot to improve the treatment availabilities and care for the unfortunates dealing with any kind of mental disorders, however there still are many inadequacies left behind for their treatment. In any kind of health related disorder the journey of treatment begins with a prognosis, it is vital for your medical practitioner to diagnose your health care concern based on the abnormalities or symptoms so that he or she can progress with your treatment to address those concerns (Schildkrout Frankel, 2016). Mental disorders are no exception to that, a logical, precise and clinically reasonable diagnostic procedure is the pivotal pedestal. However the question is whether the diagnostic procedures meant to help the individuals dealing with mental disorders are really concerned with helping out the mentally disabled or are they just another tool for stigmatizing the unfortunates. This essay will attempt to criticize the existing psychiatric disorders and their efficacy in actually helping the patients of mental disability rather than addng to the social labelling and stigmatizing (John Saeed, 2016). A diagnosis can be defined as the initial step towards delivering medical treatment and has a number of different purposes; it provides the clinical practioner with the relevant information about the patients and allows the prognosis to develop scientifically according to the needs of the patient (John Saeed, 2016). It has to be considered that each patient has varying needs irrespective of the labelling of disorders. However the diagnostic procedures for the different mental disorders are heavily lacking in modern techniques and advancements and are no longer viable for the scientific treatment procedure. Various studies suggest that there are various gaps and loose relationships between diagnosis and treatment in psychiatry. Lucy Johnstone in her book titled critical issues in mental health has explained how the labels used in psychiatry are vague and vastly misleading (Johnstone, 2000). She has explained how the medical sciences are yet to discover any biochemical abnormalities in the brain tissues that can relate to any particular mental disease, nor is the genetic predisposition very clear to the medical sciences (Campinha-Bacote, 2017). In such a condition a diagnosis on one hand can provide the label that the patient will need to seek the medical regime but on the other hand that label is vague and stigmatizing in the society. Moreover the different diagnostic procedures vary vastly across different regions hence the diagnostic labels are misleading as well (Johnstone, 2000). The inadequacy of the formal psychiatric diagnostic procedures is also supported by Sami Tamimi in his article on viability of the age old formal psychiatric diagnostic measures in The face of modern and technologically advanced medical science (Timimi, 2014). The author in his article has beautifully explained how the invalid and inadequate age old conventional diagnostic procedures have only aided in escalating the stigmatizing and discrimination in the society rather than aiding in the treatment procedure of the mentally ill patients (Anderson, Nordstrom, Wilson, Peltzer-Jones, 2017). The author suggests that despite all the technological advances and improvisations to the medical science have not made any modifications to the rusty old diagnostic modules for psychiatry. The diagnostic manual still lacks any physical tests or biological markers that can be correlated to the pathophysiological subjective assessment based on which he will construct the prognosis (Timimi, 2014). It has to be considered that there still have not been any discoveries of biological or psychological markers that identify different mental disorders and can characterize them, unlike the rest of the disciplines that have diagnostic procedures that are heavily linked to pathophysiology and etiological findings (John Saeed, 2016). The author has further commented on how popular diagnostic manual like that are used abundantly in the psychiatry cannot provide any link between the diagnostic procedures with etiological processes (Timimi, 2014). Moreover the validity of the diagnostic procedures concerned with the psychiatric procedures is questionable. The validity and viability of a diagnostic procedure is based on how effectively it can explain and characterize a naturally occurring abnormality though substantial data that can be standardized (Wigney Parker, 2010). In case of psychiatric diagnoses, the lack of any physical tests utilizing any biochemical or physiological markers eliminates any chance for it to be viable or valid. This phenomenon can be further established by discussing about the number of diagnoses a mental patient generally receives (Anderson, Nordstrom, Wilson, Peltzer-Jones, 2017). In case of any health care related emergency a single precise diagnosis is enough to determine and construct the prognosis in case of the rest of the medical disciplines. However, in case of psychiatric disorders the mental patients receive multiple diagnoses in the majority of the cases which seriously questions the viability of the each of them in the first place (Timimi, 2014). More often than not the reliability of the diagnostic procedures associated with the psychiatry varies among different practitioners. Studies suggest that most of the common diagnostic procedures associated with the primary mental disorders are invalid due to the immense amount of disagreements in different psychiatrists over the key symptoms. Hence the diagnostic procedures along with being highly backward and nonviable are not reliable as well (Lakeman Cutcliffe, 2016). With so many misgivings of a medical diagnostic procedure one might raise a question as to whether the psychiatric diagnoses are even scientific or not. A wonderful article by Jose de Leon questions the scientific basis of psychiatry in intricate details, incorporating facts and data that provide valid information negating the age old notion of psychiatry being as connected to science (De Leon, 2013). The author very clearly questions the lack of statistical data backing the psychiatric medical practice and has deemed psychiatry to be scientific only if we consider the limitations of science largely. The major controversies around the scientific basis of psychiatry arose with the emergence of DSM5 established by the high and mighty American Psychiatric Association (De Leon, 2013). Many of the researchers have declared psychiatry to be completely out of scientific context due to the vast lack of validity and relative connection between the diagnosis and treatment outcome. However, her e the author guides the readers to find the intersection between psychiatry, science and medicine before declaring psychiatry to be completely unscientific (De Leon, 2013). Jose here explained psychiatry to e a hybrid discipline of science which is vastly run by the methodologies of medical science and concepts of social science it has to be considered that the history of psychiatry has seen multiple changes in the human society and living and the impact of all those changes have structured the human psyche of today and has great implications to the psychiatric theories (Sidhu, 2016). He has clearly articulated the problems that are prevalent in the realm of psychiatry that restricts it to be as compatible to science and statistics as the rest of the medical disciplines. The author suggests that human mind is complex and it does not play by the hard and fast rules, every individual is different and their disorders have different stories and triggers behind them, and this differential data often does not fit to the medical models (De Leon, 2013). It has to be understood that the a psychiatrist may need to use the scientific procedures along with the social and personal understanding of the situation of the patient before they can decide what prognosis fits them bet n accordance to the mental disorder they are dealing with (Brodwin, 2014). Hence in the world where science is treated as the ultimate source of truth, psychiatry has a lot of restrictions to fall through the yes or no model of the rest of the medical sciences (Gruber, 2008). Now one might raise a question that psychiatry being a medical science can it not modify itself to a more scientific and statistical grounds of practice. The author has answered this question by listing the limitations of the current scientific approach within psychiatry. In the light of the a lack of any biological marker that can link psychiatric diagnosis to treatment outcome, the first and foremost cause behind this inadequacy that comes to mind is the lack of proper technology (Van Os, 2010). However there are a lot more confounding factors, the author has declared the inadequacy and restrictions of the psychiatric language to be the major reason behind the limitations of the current psychiatric practice. It has to be considered that application of scientific methodology to psychoanalysis presents a conundrum, and that delimits the scope of psychiatry in general (Wigney Parker, 2010). Various studies have agreed to the view of Jose that the limitations of the psychiatric language is a major reason why the psychiatry could not align itself to the scientific models that the rest of the medical disciplines so accurately do (Campinha-Bacote, 2017). However there are other limitations as well, it should not escape notice that the science of psychiatry has to deal with the differential complexities of human minds, most of which is still a mystery to the scientific biomedical researches (Wand, 2013). As mentioned above the different individuals have different mind sets and the mental disorders one faces can due to triggers that are completely different from another one. And if we consider medical science to be a phenomenon of cause and effect, how can psychiatry follow the strict and unbending models of medical sciences with so many confounding variables to consider (Goldfried, 2013). However, the question remains whether the psychiatric diagnoses are scientifically valid or not, the answer to that could be tricky. It is undoubtedly true that the methods of the age old diagnostic manuals are more stigmatizing to the patients rather than being very helpful, but they are not completely useless as well (Campinha-Bacote, 2017). In my opinion what the science of psychiatry n is discretion and modifications that can drag psychiatry towards a more positive health paradigm (Wyatt, 2009). The diagnostic methods for the psychiatry need to be more inclined towards labels that aid in the treatment outcomes and simplified decision making. The psychiatric diagnoses need to be reorganized keeping the current needs and complexities of the patient in mind so that the psychiatrists can engage the patient in the best biological treatment that is in accordance with the needs of the patient (Gruber, 2008). On a concluding note it can be said that the science of psychiatry is as different as the minds of humans it deals with are. Different humans have different thinking, different perception and have gone through varying experiences and grief. There can be no standard that can quantify the degree to which a traumatic experience can affect the mental sanity of an individual. Different situation affects different people with varying magnitude; hence there cannot be strict quantifiable data or benchmarks for psychiatry unlike the rest of medical sciences. On a similar note, Jose in his article has stated that if an individual judge the basics of psychiatry with the rules and regulations of natural sciences will not find it to be very scientific. It has to be considered that psychiatry is a discipline 150 years behind the so called science of medicine and has had to deal with mental and behavioural issues that can be more easily explained by social sciences rather than natural sciences. However if the psychiatric practitioners change their methods and tactics in a more patient centred way that can address the needs for different patient in a manner more receptive for that patient, psychiatry will come out of the dead end that it has approached. Some are escaping tyranny; others are leaving dismal livings conditions and extreme poverty. Whatever the reason, the United States has been a refuge for hundreds of years to almost every nationality in the world. When terrorism took the twin towers down and thousands of lives with it, everything changed. This is an issue that I feel is very important in regards to American culture as we know it. The fact that most of the United States is made up of people who, in one generation or another, came here from another country makes us the ââ¬Å"melting potâ⬠of the world. That open door policy is now being threatened due to certain groups who would jeopardize human life in pursuit of power. This is an issue that affects all people in one way or another and this includes those who are US citizens.Immigration has always been an issue within the United States. The Immigration and Natural ization Service (INS) has been under constant criticism for either being too harsh or being too lenient, depending on the issue. Laws are always changing and there are calls for amnesty. Illegal aliens sneaking across the border is not a new issue and many risk their lives to get into the US, only to be deported and try again. When the September 11th attack occurred, it took everyone by surprise. It was not just that the attack happened on US soil; it was that we had allowed these terrorists to enter the country for educational purposes. These were not the shabby people the media shown sneaking over the border. These were English speaking, average looking, college kids who said they wanted a better education than was offered in their native country. The cry for reform of the current immigration policies was immediate. Suddenly people saw terrorists everywhere and violence escalated based on ethnicity. While some laws were passed to protect the American citizens, others had to be passe d to protect those immigrants who were in the country simply to make a better life. Some immigration policy changes have already been implemented while others are yet to be realized, but the changes continue to be proposed as each new fear or threat possibility arises. One of the major changes in US immigration policy has been in regards to foreign students and visitors to the United States. This new rule, effective once it is published in the Federal Register, effects students who want to study in the US, travelers coming to the States for pleasure or business and person who have ordered deported.Students must have confirmation that they have been accepted into a US school before entering the country. Anyone already in the country cannot apply to attend unless they first return to their native country and apply from there.Tourists and business travelers will be limited to 30 days in the country or the predefined amount of time needed to finish their trip. The maximum extended stay wo uld be shortened from one year to six months, with extensions given only under very specific and limited conditions.Anyone ordered deported or removed from the US must surrender within 30 days or forfeit any right to appeals or sanctuary. In addition, schools reporting requirements have changed as well.Another change was using Florida as a testing ground to allow police to detain people for immigration violations. In the past, this was left up to federal agents. If the testing is successful, other states will follow Floridaââ¬â¢s lead.Schools will be required to use the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) to issue documents to foreign students and report information to the INS. SEVIS is an internet-based system that lets the government, and schools exchange information about foreign students and their dependents. The new regulations will require schools to report the following information to the INS:1. A students enrollment or failure to enroll at the school;2. The start date of the students next term or session;3. A student dropping below a full course of study without authorization;4. Any other failure to maintain status or complete the program;5. A change of the students or dependents legal name or address;6. Any disciplinary action taken by the school against the student as a result of the student being convicted of a crime; and7. A students graduation prior to the listed program end date. The preliminary enrollment period to enable INS approved schools to begin using SEVIS to accept foreign students began on July 1, 2002. (Wipf, 2007)Two groups who are very upset with many of the immigration changes are the Filipinos and the Mexicans. Both groups have a history of migrating to the US in search of work and a better life for themselves and their families. For the Mexicans Sept 11th means that the focus that was on gaining amnesty for the current illegal Mexican immigrants is now on the prevention of terrorist cells entering the country. T hepossibility of working visa programs for the unskilled Mexican worker has been abandoned in favor of heightened security of the borders.;245i would allow illegal aliens to upgrade their status to permanent resident if they had a sponsor. à Congress added the amendment to its border security bill but the Senate removed it. It has not been reinstated at this time. The Filipino community is, along with the Mexican community, one of the groups who use sponsorship to enter the United States and gain residency. Both groups are very family oriented and this increases the already overwhelming task of bringing family members to the US.International tracking systems have also been discussed such as national identification cards and/or fingerprints. This would make it virtually impossible to create a fake identity or obtain immigrant status through deceptive means. This, of course, would have no affect on the illegal aliens. One of the changes with a more wide spread effect is the cancellati on of the J-visa waiver for physicians. Foreign students who come to the U.S. for medical training are required to go back to their home countries for 2 years before they can return to the U.S. The J waiver program for physicians made it possible for them to stay if they would agree to work in medically underserved areas, obtain such an offer and got appropriate government sponsorship. (Wipf, 2002) This affects not only the doctors themselves but the areas that desperately need doctors and medical treatment. The biggest change is the reformation of INS into another agency with two separate departments. The main agency is the Agency for Immigration Affairs and is under the Department of Justice. The two bureaus are the Bureau of Immigration Services and Adjudications, which would take over all immigration applications/processing and status/record keeping functions and The Bureau of Immigration Enforcement, who would handle control and;prosecution of immigration violations and legal ma tters. Critics feel that this was more a rearrangement than a reform but it has not had time to prove or disprove its worth.Immigrants of all nationalities are finding it harder to not only enter the country but to stay. This is includes those ethnic groups who are not of Middle Eastern descent. After September 11th almost all immigrants were under suspicion by the citizens of the United States.Anyone coming from the Middle East or of Middle Eastern descent was subjected to more severe prejudices and accusations. The media has been full of the reports of Middle Eastern men being asked to get off airplanes because the flight crew and other passengers are afraid of them. These men, in particular, are being singled out for baggage and body searches. State and local police are stopping and questioning swarthy-appearing men as never before. There has been a new rash of hate crimes against Arabs, Muslims, Sikhs, or anyone thought by the uninformed vigilante to be a potential terrorist or s ympathizer. For example, there are reports in New York City of attacks on Yemeni-owned delis, the shooting of a Sikh cabdriver, and assaults of Arabs and Pakistanis on subways and on the street. Police are discovering a disproportionately high number of such incidents since September 11th, and not only in New York. (Dean, 2001)Revalidation for nationals with legal visitor status from Iraq, Iran, Syria, Libya, Sudan, North Korea and Cuba may not be automatic anymore. They also are unable to apply for a new visa while abroad. Instead they must return to their home country and apply from there. Many people of Arab, Muslim and South Asian descent have been detained for little or no reason. Arrests of these groups increased dramatically due to a zero tolerance for even minor infractions.;;The President has stated that tougher border patrols are not the answer. He is suggesting a temporary work program that will allow lawful employment for people wanting to enter the United States for wor k purposes. The condition for the temporary work program would be:The program must be truly temporaryAmerican workers must be given priority over temporary workersParticipation should fluctuate with market conditionsThese are ideas that may help ease the burden of border patrol and national guards but they do not address the issue of the thousands of illegal and current legal aliens in the United States. They also do nothing to address the issue of racial profiling, hate crimes or jeopardized civil liberties by the citizens of Middle Eastern descent. The men who suicide bombed the twin towers were of Middle Eastern origin and had come to this country under false pretenses. It becomes a complex process as to who is a threat and who is not. Do we use the ethnic approach and assume anyone from a suspect country has an ulterior motive? Or do we assume that anyone clean cut and studious is automatically not a suspect for terrorism? The President also has ideas on how to screen the future ci tizens already residing in our country.A Rational Middle Ground Between A Program Of Mass Deportation And A Program Of Automatic Amnesty.à It is neither wise nor realistic to round up and deport millions of illegal;;immigrants in the United States. But there should be no automatic path to citizenship.à The President supports a rational middle ground founded on the following basic tenets:à ·Ã à à à à à à à No Amnesty.à Workers who have entered the country illegally and workers who have overstayed their visas must pay a substantial penalty for their illegal conduct.à ·Ã à à à à à à à In Addition To Paying A Meaningful Penalty, Undocumented Workers Must Learn English, Pay Their Taxes, Pass A Background Check, And Hold A Job For A Number Of Years Before They Will Be Eligible To Be Considered For Legalized Status.à ·Ã à à à à à à à Any Undocumented Worker Seeking Citizenship Must Go To The Back Of The Line.à The program sh ould not reward illegal conduct by making participants eligible for citizenship ahead of those who have played by the rules and followed the law.à Instead, program participants must wait their turn at the back of the line. (Bush, 2007)People will never forget September 11th and the terrible loss of life but it was a loss of innocence and security as well. If reforms are not made to improve both national security and immigration policy then all those people will have died for nothing. Many Muslims who have lived in the US either all their lives or for a few years were as shocked and appalled as the rest of the nation and yet they remain under suspicion to the point of being ostracized at times.;;Other ethnic groups are suffering either from imposed rules that limit their activities within the US or by losing the interest of the government regarding their individual interests. Everyone suffers in a tragedy of this magnitude and the trust is harder to extend to others. This is especi ally true for those who are different or have come from another country.I have researched and written this essay using the content analysis method. I chose this method over an ethnographic approach in order to utilize the massive amounts of coverage on this subject. Content analysis is useful because it enables the researcher to get many versions of an issue and form their own opinion of the matter.I believe the ethnographic approach would have been less effective in this case due to the need for personal interviews. Not only would it be difficult to locate enough people but it would lack the information regarding many of the new immigration laws since many people may not be fully informed of them. murielkim1982http://www.blogger.com/profile/07643567870326400184noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-140030043763455588.post-57715177146330389872020-03-15T17:58:00.001-07:002020-03-15T17:58:02.659-07:00Memory and MemorialsMemory and Memorials Memory and Memorials Memory and Memorials By Mark Nichol This post lists and defines the words derived from the Latin term memor, which means ââ¬Å"mindful of.â⬠Memory means ââ¬Å"the power or process of retaining things experienced or learnedâ⬠or refers to something, or all the things, so retained. It also pertains to information stored in a device or the capacity for doing so. Something that is significant enough in some way that it can easily be recalled is memorable (the adverbial form is memorably), while the quality or state of being easily recalled or worth recalling is memorability. Memorial is, like memorable, an adjective pertaining to the act of recall, but it most often refers to preserving the memory of an event or person; the word is also a noun referring to an object (often a sculpture or statue) or a place that serves to do so, or a ceremony or a speech honoring a memory. (In the United States, the Memorial Day holiday honors the memory of U.S. soldiers- originally, Union soldiers during the Civil War- who have died in battle.) Someone or something so honored is memorialized, and the action of doing so is memorialization. (A memorialist is someone who signs or writes a memorial.) The Latin phrase ââ¬Å"in memoriamâ⬠(literally, ââ¬Å"in memory ofâ⬠) is used in English, usually in documents such as programs distributed at a memorial for a deceased person, or on gravestones honoring the dead, though the English translation is often employed. Something that helps people remember a person or thing to be honored can also be described as being commemorative; the verb form is commemorate and the action is a commemoration. Memorabilia, in Latin, denoted notable achievements but in English came to merely describe things worth recalling before its meaning shifted to ââ¬Å"things that aid in recalling.â⬠The word usually applies to souvenirs pertaining to popular culture, such as objects commemorating a form of entertainment or an athletic competition. There is no singular form, so a single object might be referred to as ââ¬Å"a piece of memorabilia.â⬠Similarly, a memento is something that serves to remind one of someone or something; the plural is mementos (though mementoes is also common). Memoir usually applies to an autobiography or biography, though it is (rarely) used to refer to a memorandum or a report. A person who writes a biographical memoir is a memoirist or a memorialist. To memorize is to store information in oneââ¬â¢s memory; the act is called memorization. To remember is to place or retain information in oneââ¬â¢s memory. Remembrance can apply neutrally to any memory, though it usually has the connotation of honoring someone or something. To disremember, meanwhile, is to forget, while to misremember is to have a faulty memory of something. A memorandum (the word is derived directly from the Latin term meaning ââ¬Å"to be rememberedâ⬠) is a communication, often in written form, that serves as a record or reminder or that advises, directs, or informs; the plural in Latin is memoranda, though in English memorandums is prevalent, and the word is often truncated to memo (plural: memos). The newest word in this family is meme, coined in the mid-1970s on the model of gene and defined by its coiner, scientist Richard Dawkins, as ââ¬Å"a unit of cultural transmission,â⬠often an idea but sometimes a behavior or style. The definition has since extended among laypeople to encompass amusing or interesting images or videos, often accompanied by audio or by written messages, disseminated through social media. The adjectival form is memetic. Member and other words pertaining to a part or a unit are unrelated. Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? The implementation of the clinical adaptation will precisely illustrate the types of medical conditions met by healthcare organizations, and it will reduce medical errors and improve patient health outcomes. It will also help in the reduction of fraud and abuse in the healthcare institution. The transition to ICD-10 dives United States the opportunity to propagate public health disease and surveillance data globally. The healthcare industry in this country continues to advance medically and technologically, and incorporating a more modern coding system will be a major boost in the industry. The coding system offers many advantages that will cause an improvement in hospitals, medical device manufacturers and many more institutions. Enhanced quality care is one of the major benefits since it will lead to improving eminence carefor certain health conditions such as chronic illnesses. With each challenge, there are obstacles that lay ahead. In England, it is possible to amend or revoke the English common law by the Parliament. A few of the oldest English laws which still exist today include the Distress Act of 1267 and a few sections of the Magna Carta of 1215. W. M. Geldart( p.7, 1918) states We commonly speak both of law and lawsââ¬âthe English Law, or the Laws of England ; and these terms, though not used with precision, point to two different aspects under which legal science may be approached. The laws of a country are thought of as separate, distinct, individual rules; the law of a country, however much we may analyze it into separate rules, is something more than the mere sum of such rules. It is rather a whole, a system which orders our conduct ; in which the separate rules have their place and their relation to each other and to the whole ; which is never completely exhausted by any analysis, however far the analysi s may be pushed, and however much the analysis may be necessary to our understanding of the whole. The Presumption of Innocence and the Burden of Proof are two very important laws which belong to the English Law. The Presumption of Innocence is the right that an accused gets in most modern countries of the world. Hence, until the persecution can gather further evidence to prove that the accused is guilty, the accused will be deemed as innocent. The prosecution on the other hand has a job which directly conflicts with the ââ¬ËPresumption of innocenceââ¬â¢. Their job is to obtain the ââ¬ËThe Burden of Proofââ¬â¢. So the proof that the prosecution needs to gather has to be convincing enough. This would make the jury pronounce that the accused is guilty without any doubt. But if there are certain doubts, the accused will be acquitted. The Presumption of Innocence is very similar to the Latin principle ââ¬ËEi incumbit probatio qui dicit, non qui negatââ¬â¢, hence many consider it to be based on this murielkim1982http://www.blogger.com/profile/07643567870326400184noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-140030043763455588.post-76032965949896915822020-01-31T14:55:00.001-08:002020-01-31T14:55:04.006-08:00Ambition in Your Life Essay Example for Free Ambition in Your Life Essay Ambition a passion that never fails you and will never let you fail it, and this is why it will ultimately cause the downfall of the individual. In the novel Frankenstein and in the Play Macbeth, ambition is the main theme in these two pieces. Both Victor and Macbeth had great dreams of accomplishing certain things that defy a higher order. Ambition drove both of them to strive for what they want and never give up on their dreams. Ambition without doubt help or even single handling brought Macbeth and Victor to their dreams. Ambition is the best quality that a person can have, it allowed Victor and Macbeth to achieve what they always wanted. Whatever can bring you to the top, also has the power to make you fall harder then you fell before, being overly ambitious can also destroy a person and people that surrounds this individual. Victor and Macbeth succeeded in accomplishing their deepest desire but this does not mean they have succeeded in achieving happiness. Everyone dreams about achieving goals and dreams in life that is nearly impossible to grasp due to certain circumstances. Why do some individuals still try in chasing their dreams even though they know that the chances of succeeding are very slim? In the novel Frankenstein and the play Macbeth, Victor and Macbeth had dreams of achieving goals that defy a high order which promises server consequences. Victor and Macbeth are examples of the individual that were driven by ambition, this ambition was so strong and relentless that it actually allowed both Victor and Macbeth achieved their impossible dreams. In Victorââ¬â¢s case he succeeded in creating life and Macbeth succeeded in becoming king and this was all due to being ambitious and determined. Yes Victor and Macbeth did achieved what they wanted but both paid great prices in doing so. Was it worth it? Ambition is the best quality anyone can have, until we crossed the line of chasing a dream and just being obsessed. No one is born with the ambition that makes you obsessed with your goals and dreams in life. Certain incidents must occur to push this person to let ambition make you become obsessed with the goals and dreams in life. Victor and Macbeth both experience this incident that allow their ambitious minds to take over. Victor experienced the lost of a love one, which was his mother. This shock was too great for Victor to handle, this caused victor to hate the fact of death and suffering in life. The chance and opportunity of being able to bring his mother back, and to end all suffering was to captivating. He had the knowledge and power to do so. This caused his ambitious mind to grow and start to take over. The same line of events occurred to Macbeth as well. Macbeth had no intention in betraying his king and taking the throne. Until the three witches implanted the seed of betrayal in Macbeth, he started to think of the opportunities that being the king would bring to him. Betrayal thoughts started to occur in his mind. Macbeth was never sure of what to do until he talked to his lovely wife, she convinced him in taking this opportunity in becoming king. Macbeth kept his ambitious mind under control until the actual first deed of betrayal was committed which was the killing of Duncan, the current king of Scotland. After this incident, ambition took over Macbeth and caused in to do everything in his power to secure his throne. A determined and overly ambitious mind is a blind one. You may spend your whole life striving for a dream or goal that you have. You work so hard in getting what you think you really want, but when you actually achieved and accomplished you goal or dream. You realized that youââ¬â¢re not happy and lost certain things that are so much more important to you then your so called dream or goal. Macbeth and Victor both experienced this in their lives. Victor tried to create life and he succeeded in doing so, but in the course of creating ââ¬Å"The monsterâ⬠he abandoned what was really important to him, which is his family, his friends, most importantly his life. His creation actually destroyed everything that Victor loved and cared for. The monster should not be blamed because victor crossed the line of trying to better human kind and playing God. He created this hideous and ugly monster that no one can possibly love and abandoned it and left it to die. The actions of victor can also justify the actions of the monster. If victor actually took the time in thinking of what he was doing, he wouldââ¬â¢ve realized the mistake he was making. He made another mistake right after making the first one. He gave this monster life and limitless power and intelligent, obviously this monster can survive and cause great harm to him and his love ones. If he actually stayed with the monster and taught him how to live and act towards other beings, things wouldââ¬â¢ve of turned out totally different. Macbeth experienced the same exact lines of events and feelings that victor did in his life. If Macbeth thought of the acts that he was committing, he wouldââ¬â¢ve of realized that the only thing he is accomplishing in killing the king, is damning himself, his only loved ones. It is obvious that if he committed this act of betrayal and defiance of a higher order, only bad can occur from this. He didnââ¬â¢t realize this right after this act just like victor. He continued to do wrong because of his ambitious mind, which Victor also experienced. He continued acting on his relentless ambition to secure his throne and his undying passion to seek happiness which at the time was being king for him. Which was completely wrong. Knowledge is power and power can corrupt any human being. Victor and Macbeth had the opportunity to achieve their dreams and goals. This thought corrupted both their minds. As both Victor and Macbeth succeeded in achieving their dreams, they experienced different feelings. When Victor was successful in creating life, it totally scared him that he actually create life and it caused him to flee. This ultimately caused the downfall and death of Victor. In Macbethââ¬â¢s case when he became king, it made him a more determined and stronger person. It made him paranoid and trusted no one, which caused him to make more mistakes, such as killing any one that stood a threat. Victor and Macbeth both were not happy even though they achieved their dream. This is because they acted on impulse which caused them to do whatever it takes to succeed, which caused them to make mistakes that they regretted towards the end of their lives. All of this and every mistake that both Victor and Macbeth made were because they let their ambitious mind blind them of their senses and conscious of what is really important to them and what truly makes them happy. Chasing a dream is good, until the mind is obsessed and is poisoned with the ambition that will change you to a whole new person. Is it just because you have known them all of your life? Or is it simply because you just like to hang out with them? My best friend is as unique as they come. I have watched and admired his way of life over the past eight years. My friends' name is Mike Linn. Mike and I met in the sixth grade. He immediately stood out to me. There was just something about him that caught my eye. He had short messy brown hair as if he had just rolled out of bed and he was wearing a yellow Nautica t-shirt that glared at you as if you were looking directly into the sun. He had on a pair of cream colored cargo shorts and a pair of sneakers from Wal-Mart. He was the typical sixth grader everyone could imagine. From that moment on we have had many great and memorable times. Today Mikeââ¬â¢s look is very unique. Over the years he has changed it dramatically. He has realized that the way he looked was not the way he wanted to look. It was the way his parents and friends wanted him to look. In middle school he was always wearing bright poloââ¬â¢s, cargo sorts, and K-Swiss sneakers. He had short dirty blonde hair that he always spiked. Today you will see him wearing all black pretty much. Most people would say heââ¬â¢s gothic or emo. There totally wrong. He is nowhere near gothic or emo. He is always wearing black t-shirts that have some sort of design on them. His pants are usually black and for some odd reason he loves to wear black cargo pants, not those skinny jeans or denim jeans; but black cargo pants. He has an obsession with love so occasionally he wears weird pants with hearts all over them just to catch peoples attention. Most people call him gay but he has had the same girlfriend f... ... her and how much I truly missed being with her. Mikeââ¬â¢s right, love isnââ¬â¢t a game. Itââ¬â¢s a gift, a privilege, an honor. His friendship and passion for others make me a better person everyday. I have learned so much from him by watching and observing his actions over the years. He has helped me in so many ways. He helped me learn the value of life; and he helped me put my relationship with the love of my life back together. So many teenagers today are too busy trying to fit in; worrying about what people think of them. He doesnââ¬â¢t care what people think. He just wants to be him, he wants to be different, and he wants people to acknowledge him BECAUSE he is different. Like Iââ¬â¢ve said before, he really has made a positive impact and influence on not only my life, but our friendship as well, and I will always appreciate him for who he is and everything he has done for me! murielkim1982http://www.blogger.com/profile/07643567870326400184noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-140030043763455588.post-29434121764834541792020-01-15T07:42:00.001-08:002020-01-15T07:42:05.825-08:00Book of E.H. Carr on ââ¬ËTwenty Years Crisis.ââ¬â¢This paper seeks to make a review the book of E.H. Carr on ââ¬ËTwenty Years Crisis.ââ¬â¢ The book is about international relations (IR) hence discussion dwells mainly on related different IR concepts including utopianism and ââ¬Å"extremeâ⬠realism.à The book was written by Edward Hallett Carr in 1939 and is believed to be one of the classics in international relations (IR).à I see two reasons why Carrââ¬â¢s book makes a special place in the field of IR. Firstly, since the book was first printed in 1939, it is believed that it greatly contributed to the establishment of international as an autonomous discipline; secondly, it has a quite good amount of texts in understanding classical realism. An observant mind would think that the book was written shortly before the outbreak of World War II ââ¬â as the author himself has put in the preface to the first edition. The book is believed to have grown out of the authorââ¬â¢s disappointment with utopianism and â⠬Å"extremeâ⬠realism that appeared to him to belong to opposite poles that have developed in the study and practice of international politics after the Great War. Utopianism is believed to have its roots from the philosophical liberalism and gained popularity in the first decade after WWI which included the view that there is goodness in man and of humankind as united by a substantial harmony of interests; the existence of natural law; and a reliance on the constructive consequence of public opinion on politics.Using the doctrine of utopianism, one could see the creation of the League of Nations and the liberal international economic system. But for author Carr, he saw the opposite, arguing that these two liberal institutions were weak which actually uncovered the weaknesses of the utopian approach. à It was Carrââ¬â¢s view, that the political and economic events in Europe occurring before the World II proved that principles like the universal interest in peace or the bene fits of open markets were not really true in the real sense since these developments were dependent on a distribution of power favouring the status quo countries which included Great Britain and the United States at the time.Carrââ¬â¢s emphasis on power in international politics, however, does not preclude him from disagreeing with those who take this realist principle to its extremes. He looks at politics as a constant quest for power in which imagination does not play any role, and making an allowance for morality as always relative and functional to interests. Thus he argued that the kind of realism developed in the decade before World War II, made utopianismââ¬â¢s opposite mistake that is analysis made makes purpose lacking in meaning.à Carrââ¬â¢s contemporaries including ââ¬Å"heirs of Machiavelliâ⬠were proposing a completely pragmatic approach to politics, which had detached any emotional appeal, finite goal, or ground for ethical judgment, which Carr readil y found to have no basis. This would leave any one then reading this book wander the way one then should look at world politics. à The author then made his theory of international relations clearer in the second half of the book. à What he theorized as is that power or drive for supremacy is the main driving force of international politics. He denied not the fact that every state has selfish interest and that no interaction in the international arena can be well explained without making an assumption to the selfish nature of states. These countries according to Carr lust for influence and to the conflictual character of politics. He defined power to be referring to military as the most important, because of the possibility of war that was always present then.Power could also be economic, or ideological. He thus believed that power is not the only force at work in the international arena. As to how can this be, Carr, as distinguished from the ââ¬Å"extremeâ⬠realists, believ es that morality plays a role in politics. à His conception of ethics, however, is not embodied as part of one he is opposing, the theory of the utopian philosopher. Instead what Carr theorized on is a ââ¬Å"realisticâ⬠morality, found and felt in the actual behaviour of the states that recognize each other as belonging to the same community. Commonality for membership in the same community lies with similar goals and ââ¬Å"feelingsâ⬠of said members. There is basis to look at the authors position on ethics in international relations as having significant limitations which should include the need and concern for self-preservation) so that denying not to have à any function in politics may sound to be baseless since man must not be forgotten that he can be sociable as well as egoistic. Thus in trying to find the middle ground or the so called ââ¬Å"golden meanâ⬠that is between complete power and purely morality based on utopianism, Carrââ¬â¢s analysis of inte rnational law did show his plausible view in international relation. It may be just logical to understand his argument not to obey the law because it is ââ¬Å"goodâ⬠or out of pure imposition. He believes then powerful countries then do so make decisions because law gives certainty and regularity to an order and such situations do show both the systemic distribution of power and the consent of its participants. What can be inferred from Carrââ¬â¢s position is that, the main challenge for a system undergoing a redistribution of power via peaceful transformations of its legal order moral principles should be maintained as still important part of the process. To conclude, it may be said that the Carrââ¬â¢s book on The Twenty Yearsââ¬â¢ Crisis is a classic of International Relations and itââ¬â¢s a complex although others believe that has its simple structure. à Beyond the complexity it must be noted the authorââ¬â¢s arguments revealed his concern the method of Inter national Relations as well as its substance. Carrââ¬â¢s attacking utopianism and ââ¬Å"extremeâ⬠realism limits not only views of the human nature and of the essence of politics, but his good grasp of the relationships of thing like those between pragmatism and ethics in the study of politics making a reader to fill in some interpretation for the solution.à What must be remembered also is not his narration of the history of the inter-war international system, nor pure theoretical discussion as show in his refusal to transform arguments into universally models as he seemed to argue on case to case basis.Reference:Carr, E. This is primarily because they were working against the grain and trying to create change in world that saw change as a threat. The time period was turbulent and there was bound to be resistance in a world that was dominated by Catholics and those that had reformed to abide by their Kingââ¬â¢s law. The puritans of the time were considered extreme and rubbed people the wrong way because they wanted a world that abided by their morals and ethical codes. For this, they took the blame for the misery that many suffered during this age, but as we see in Fire from Heaven, this is not a fair assessment. The Puritans of this time wanted to improve the lives of the people and society as a whole through morality and purity. Dorchester, England has played a key role in the evolution of England as it lays on one of the main roads leading to London. Thousands passed through this city on this well traveled road, bringing with them ideas and knowledge that the people of Dorchester had not experienced. As they were exposed to these ideas, they become worldlier in their thoughts and better able to understand the issues of the world. With this knowledge, they also saw the need to adopt a new religion as the reforms and puritanism took hold. Many agree that we have a more efficient and prosperous economy as a result of Reagan s economic policies, foreign policy triumphs including a peaceful yet long end to the Cold War, and a restoration of American pride and morale. Proponents also preach that Reagan restored faith in the American Dream with his unabated and passionate love for the United States. It is because of this, that in my opinion, Ronald Reagan has been the most successful President in American History. Ronald Wilson Reagan, was the 40th President of the United States serving from 1981-1989- born on February 6, 1911 in Tampico Illinois in an apartment on the second floor of a commercial building.. He was an American politician and actor. Before his presidency, he was the 33rd Governor of California, from 1967 to 1975. His mother, Nelle Clyde was of half Scots and half English descent and Father, John Edward Jack Reagan was a salesman and a storyteller, the grandson of Irish Catholic immigrants. It is the voluntary actions that are intended to help or benefit another individual or group of individuals. This definition refers to the consequences of a personââ¬â¢s actions, motivations and their behaviour; behaviours which include a broad range of activities: sharing, comforting, rescuing, and helping. But there are a many different factors that influence this behaviour, that affect ones decision to give, share, and help. A lot of social psychological research focuses on anti-social behaviour. Answer: Introducation Sun Worship Leisure Wear which is dealing in swimwear and accessories will be having estimated to increase in sales in the first quarter in the sales of all 4 categories of the products it is dealing. The expected sales for the first quarter will be 9260 units consisting of all the products that are to be sold in the months January, February and March it will be amounting to around $762400. The amount of sales of all the products for the month of January will be $279000, for the month of February $245900 and March will be $237500. The sales will tend to be decrease in the next two quarters which will be around $386300 for the months of April to June (Drury, 2013). Likewise there is slight increase in the sales but not like the first quarter which will be around $373000 for the period of July to September. There will be increase in the sales in the last quarter it will be results to a total sale of $720800 which will be having contribution of October month sales $225900, November $225 900 and December $269000. So company must focus on more sales during the period of October to march it will help the organization to earn good amount of profit (Matz, et al., 2011). Production analysis While analyzing the production budget it is observed that finished goods inventory with the organization is available is around 624 units at the beginning of the year at the same time it is also required to maintain 50% sales of the next period to be maintained as planned inventory for the present year so it will be 50% of 2980 units which will be 1490 and total inventory that are needed to be produced in the month of January will be 4267 units. This process will be continued in next months (Zimmerman, and Yahya-Zadeh, 2011). The inventory production needs are highest in the month of January which will gradually fall in the later months from February to July and thereafter there is need to increase the production gradually till the end of the year. There is need to invest this cash in some more productive investments so that higher returns can be generated by the company. Companies always need to have good amounted of cash so that to manage daily operations. It is also recommended that the maintaining the cash budget and cash position will leads to know about the possible expenses and income of the organization so that the managers are able to manage operations in case of any kind of contingencies (Weygandt, et al., 2015). Company is having cash position of $167936.2 at the beginning of the year at the same time this cash balance has reached to 1 million in the month of $1024865.4 and it also rose to 1.7 million till the end of December. Analysis of market condition The clothing sector is wide spread industry which is having large variety of products. It is serving various kinds of demographic and competition between local and international brands. There are various changes that are faced by the retailing industry in past few years. These challenges rose due to intense competition in the market due to presence of large number of retailers in the market. The second challenge faced by this sector is the cautious consumer spending, customers are comparing products and they are also aware of price difference so it has resulted to change in preference and purchasing behaviors of the customers. Higher rents affected the revenues and profits of the retailers but industry revenues are going to be growing at 2.0% rate annually over the period next five years (IBISWorld, 2017). Availability of clothing products on the online channels has resulted to awareness and consumers are now cautious about spending, but now the economic conditions and preferences ar e shifted towards purchasing the products online as well as offline. The monthly comparison of the clothing trend has an increase of 0.2% in November 2017. At the same time the overall rise in the industry trend for sales of the clothing, footwear and other personal accessories were increased up to 1.6% when compared on the seasonally basis (Australian bureau of statistics, 2017). There is also possibility that the clothing retailing will increase about 0.3% with seasonal increase of about 2.2% in cloth retailing. Based upon the information and past trends in the retail clothing it is recommended that there will be increase in the sales of the clothes in year 2019. It is estimated that Australian GDP will be having a growth of 2.5% supported by an estimate of 2% growth in retail sector. It is less in comparison to past performance which was 3.7% in year 2013-2017. It is also observed that fashion is rapidly changing with the change in the season various products are having huge change in demand within short period of time (OSullivan, et al., 2017). It is required that the major spending by the company should be on promotion with managing finance and managing funds so that they are able to maintain good market position in the competitive market. Summary of Recommendations As per analysis of the sales budget it is clear that company is having good amount of sales in the 6 months starting from 1st quarter and in the 4th quarter. So it is needed that the organization must focus on advertisement of the products in the remaining period of six months so that the sales can be boosted. The company is also required to provide additional discounts on its product range so that it will be having more sales during this period of time (Lanen, 2016). It is also suggested that organization will need to introduce more products in the portfolio so that it will be having more business in future. While analyzing the production budget it is analysed that organization must focus on more efficiency and there is need to bring the cost of material and labour hours also needed to be bring down as company is facing issues of lower profits (Drury, 2013). Company must also analyse the costs and overheads so that the costs which are not giving productive returns they need to be eliminated. While analyzing the cash position of the organisation it is recommended that the organization need to take more amount of money at the time of sales company will have to increase cash collection to 25% at the time of sales. At the same time it is needed that the payments for the purchases are needed to be brought down to 20% at the time of purchases and remaining payment must be paid in 40%, 20% and 20% in the following months respectively (Weil, et al.,2013). It will also help to repay the loan that is to be repaid by the company. Company also needs to develop some branding strategy since it is analysed that the Australian market is having high competition. It is also recommended that the company have to admit its presence on online platform which is preferred as the best method for selling the products its global presence and any time accessibility are the key attracting features for the companies (Szymoszowskyj, et al., 2016). Since that time, the human race has burnt and chopped down half of the original forestland. According to Merriam-Webster's Dictionary, deforestation is defined as the action or process of clearing of forests? (www.m-w.com). The act of deforestation could, in a matter of just a few decades, completely strip the earth of trees. Deforestation not only has a phenomenal effect on the ecological balance of the world, but its economic stability as well. Tropical rainforests are disappearing faster than ever before. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) estimated that in 1980, the rainforests were disappearing at a rate of 114,000 square kilometers each year (Colchester and Lohmann, 1). More recent studies have shown a sharp increase in that number. According to a study completed by Friends for Earth, some 142,000 square kilometers of tropical rainforests were destroyed in 1989, and a further 200,000 square kilometers seriously degraded (Colchester and Lohmann, 1,2). The Amazon Rain Forest is among the leading places ravaged by deforestation. The first estimates of the damage done in the Amazon were made around 1970, suggesting that little clearing of forest had taken place (United Nations Research Institute for Social Development, 7). By 1980, it is estimated that over 125,000 square kilometers of forest had been cleared (UNRISD, 8). The most recent deforestation measurements by the INPE (Space Research Institute of Brazil) show that by 1988, some 251,429 square kilometers? had been deforested (UNRISD, 8). According to an article published in The Economist in April 2000, an official survey listed the damage of 500,000 hectares (1.24 million acres) were deforested between 1990 and 1995. A new study, the article proclaimed, suggested that 1.7 million hectares [4.2 million acres] of the Amazon forest disappeared last year (Brazil- Still Chopping, 2000). Deforestation has a number of root causes, from agricultural purposes to increasing population. The most significant amount of deforestation is a direct result of agriculture and the need for food from the rising population. Most of the Brazilian Amazon forest, that stretched along the Atlantic coast was hacked down to make room for plantations of sugar, coffee and other crops as well as to make room for sprawling cities (Brazil- Still Chopping, 2000). Throughout history, as the natives moved through the forest, they began to clear small plots of land for cultivation and living. Once the land was no longer fertile, the fields were abandoned and the rainforest quickly grew back. As additional immigrants began to settle in the area, they too began to clear plots of land, much larger plots. It was not uncommon for the new immigrants to clear 10 hectares, and only plant four or five because of inadequate burning or the underestimation of weeding a large field (UNRISD, 14). Cattle ranching is another one of the highest reasons for deforestation. The UNRISD believes it to be the main land use in deforested areas of the Amazon (15). The ranchers cut and burn vast amounts of land for temporary pasture. After a short amount of time, a year or two at the most, the land is abandoned and another large area of the forest is cleared, repeating the cycle. Once the soil is too poor for farming or grazing, the ranchers move on. Due to the high price of chemical fertilizers, it is more cost-effective for the ranchers to clear new forest than to recuperate the old pastures. Some people believe that the rising income levels in the developed countries around the world is to blame for the increased farming and cattle ranching within the rainforests. The higher income, the more meat and food is eaten. After all, the rich do eat more than the poor do. Loggers and miners who are in search of gold, oil and tin are also destroying the tropical rainforests. According to Gallant, in his book Earth's Vanishing Forests, an estimated one-half million prospectors? are currently removing some 70 tons of gold a year from within Brazilian forests (5). The environmental effects of deforestation are alarming. Deforestation increases atmospheric carbon levels; is a factor in species extinction; and also increases the frequency of floods and soil relocation. murielkim1982http://www.blogger.com/profile/07643567870326400184noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-140030043763455588.post-43017883396604550162019-11-24T22:48:00.001-08:002019-11-24T22:48:05.489-08:00Resiniferatoxin Is Much Hotter Than CapsaicinResiniferatoxin Is Much Hotter Than Capsaicin The hottest hot pepper is no match for the spicy heat of the resin spurge Euphorbia resinifera, a cactus-like plant native to Morocco. Law enforcement-grade pepper spray and the hottest hot pepper, the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion, both pack a punch of about 1.6 million Scoville heat units. Pure capsaicin comes in at 16 million Scoville units, while pure resiniferatoxin has 16 billion- yes, billion- Scoville heat units. Both the capsaicin from hot peppers and the resiniferatoxin from the Euphorbia can give you chemical burns or even kill you. Resiniferatoxin makes the plasma membrane of sensory neurons permeable to cations, especially calcium. Initial exposure to resiniferatoxin acts as a strong irritant, followed by analgesia. Even though the chemicals may be painfully hot, both capsaicin and resiniferatoxin can be used for pain relief. murielkim1982http://www.blogger.com/profile/07643567870326400184noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-140030043763455588.post-77522143421744806352019-11-21T08:25:00.001-08:002019-11-21T08:25:02.682-08:00Method for Business Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 wordsMethod for Business - Essay Example Interval estimates are often desirable because the estimate of the mean varies from sample to sample. Instead of a single estimate for the mean, a confidence interval generates a lower and upper limit for the mean. The interval estimate gives an indication of how much uncertainty there is in our estimate of the true mean. The narrower the interval, the more precise is our estimate (Snedecor and Cochran, 1989). Confidence limits are expressed in terms of a confidence coefficient. Although the choice of confidence coefficient is somewhat arbitrary, in practice 90%, 95%, and 99% intervals are often used, with 95% being the most commonly used. The first one, the 95% confidence interval, is wider. The intuition is the more the percentage of confidence interval, the wider the boundaries obtained. If we consider the Gauss bell or normal curve, as the point of analysis, when the limits are closer to the mean, the interval confidence is narrower (90% compared to 95%). There is statistical evidence to support that the average number of items processed is 10.5 per minute, with a significance level of 5%. murielkim1982http://www.blogger.com/profile/07643567870326400184noreply@blogger.com0
